Taking place at RAF Elvington in Yorkshire the Drayson B12 69/EV vehicle hit a top speed of 204.2mph (328.6km/h) smashing the previous 175mph record which was set by Battery Box General Electric in 1974.
Lord Drayson himself was sat at the wheel whilst the record was set, the former Labour minister set up Drayson Technologies in 2007 and from their Oxfordshire base works with a number of other automotive companies to develop more sustainable automotive technologies and uses motorsport competitions as a means to focus its efforts.
Carter bearings have helped propel the B12 69/EV to its record by means of hybrid bearings within the gearbox. With hybrid ceramic roller bearings in the gearbox we have helped reduce starting torque, increase fatigue life and technical support Drayson racing with all their technical bearing inquires.
As the new world record holder, Lord Drayson commented:
“I’m delighted we’ve beaten the record tonight and can show the world EVs can be fast and reliable. Drayson Racing is a laboratory for EV technology, testing it to the most extreme level, as we’ve seen today.”
This all follows the recent development that Drayson Racing was the first to announce their participation in the newly formed Formula E racing series. The new formula will be run in London, Rio de Janeiro and Beijing to name but a few and likely will attract a large number of new fans to motorsport and will add a new dimension to motorsport as a whole.
With such developments coming thick and fast the future relationship between Carter and Drayson is bright. Watch this space.
